A poem for a snowy April 9
SEASONAL SURPRISE
Bird calls summon me from slumber
happy chirps mark change of scene
warm, entrancing invitations:
wake, to love and light
and green!
Too long I’ve burrowed under blankets,
saved my strength to bear the drear
of snow and shovels,
slush-filled roadways.
Now, at last, salvation’s here!
I jump from bed, make my ablutions,
dress in colors bright as spring.
Put off breakfast for a
walk?
Yes! Embrace it! Birdies sing!
Enough of winter hibernation!
Leave the gloom of that dark den!
What hope! What joy! What wonder!
What?
It cannot be! Not snow again!
